Celebrating the newest additions to the Ticonderoga business community

TICONDEROGA | As of September 2023, there are now 21 female-owned businesses in the Ticonderoga Downtown District. On Sept. 28, a triple ribbon cutting celebrated not one, but three new businesses located at the freshly renovated 172 Champlain Ave. structure. Located across from the Post Office, the ribbon cutting marked a new era of prosperity and industry for the historical block. Grit & Grace Skincare By Kara, Bails Cuts & Colors, and The Glowtique are now the new faces of the brick structure, owned by Drew Metzler. "I am excited to start this new chapter in my business adventure; I am honored that I can provide quality esthetician services close to home to residents and visitors," said Kara Fleury, owner and operator of Grit & Grace Skincare by Kara. "I am certainly appreciative of all the love, acceptance, and support of the community and am grateful to be part of the Ticonderoga Area business community and growing Downtown Ticonderoga. I am also thrilled to be working collaboratively with other local businesses." The event hosted by the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) and Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership (TMSP) was well-attended by local supporters and town representatives alike as they gathered to watch the young women snip the blue satin. "I am so happy to be here today to see these two storefronts once again occupied by businesses owned by local residents- that's very special," noted Joyce Cooper of TMSP. "I want to thank the building owner, Drew, for taking a chance on Ticonderoga and repairing and greatly improving these buildings, and these three young women for making the decision to locate their businesses here. Lower Champlain Avenue is once more a welcoming and busy part of the Ticonderoga Downtown District." The block itself has quite the history in Ticonderoga, decades ago being a thriving area of commerce in town. When the New Year's Eve fire of 1931, touted at the time as one of the most disastrous in Ti's history, wreaked havoc on the strip, it also shaped what the block would look like in modern times. After a period of decline and depression where the buildings were turned into residential properties, new life has once again taken hold thanks to Fleury, Bailey Marcil, and Kara LaVallie. Town Supervisor Mark Wright noted he had been watching with great anticipation over many months to see how the renovations at 172 Champlain Ave. would develop and was thrilled to see the block come alive again. "I hope that this is an exciting new beginning for all of you, and an important part of your lives," Wright said. "The vibrant and inviting faces in your windows and businesses is now a part of that history. Your business endeavors are critically important to Downtown Ticonderoga, which is why we are placing so much significance on acknowledging and celebrating today." Thanking the three women for having the courage to embark on their journey and for choosing Ticonderoga to host those dreams, Wright said the town is making a comeback. Grit & Grace Skincare offers an array of services for all things skin including facials, dermaplaning, full body waxing, lash lifts and tint, full body treatments, brow tinting, LED light therapy, monthly specials, and an array of retail products. Bails Cuts and Colors is owned and operated by Bailey Marcil. They are a full-service hair and nail salon, specializing in blonding and hair extensions. The Glowtique is owned and operated by Kara LaVallie. They offer Botox services, Neurotoxins, and dermal fillers.
