Schroon Lake to host Fall Festival and Car Show

SCHROON LAKE | For the third year in a row, Schroon Lake will host its "Fall for Schroon" Festival and Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 14. The free family-friendly event is sponsored by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce. "Many folks have been wanting to do a car show in Schroon for many, many years. When we conceived of this Fall Festival, we thought it would be a perfect time to combine it with a car show. The reason we envisioned doing an event in October was to promote Schroon as a year-round destination outside of our traditional summer season," revealed Chamber Executive Director Sue Palisano. "October is a beautiful time of year here and there were no major events happening during this time." Palisano said the event is held in part thanks to a grant from the Adirondack Foundation's Generous Acts Fund. "We started out very small in our first year, and got larger last year," said Palisano. "With the funds from the grant, we were able to really expand even more." Last year, 50 cars were available for viewing, with just as many expected for 2023. Everything from Model-As to Mustangs and tricked-out trucks are entered, and everything else in between. This year, cars will be coming from Hudson Falls, Schroon, North Hudson, Lewis, Ticonderoga, Keene, Johnsburg, Olmstedville, Morrisville, Ballston Spa, Lake Placid, Lake Luzerne, and Riparius. The car show will begin at 10 a.m. and be located on Dock Street, Leland Avenue, and into the town park and the covered pavilion. Live music from Grit and Whiskey, and food trucks that will include Big Bear, Buena Comida, and Papa Duke's. New to the event this year will be a Fall Schroon Lake Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pavilion. At noon, the Fall Festival in the park will kick off with a kids' carnival that will include a variety of inflatables and carnival games, a climbing wall, a pumpkin patch complete with 150 pumpkins children can pick out and paint and take home, face painting, sand art, and a concession stand. The festival will conclude at 3 p.m. However, the fun doesn't have to end there. The Lodge at Schroon Lake will host its first ever Oktoberfest with live music, a pie eating contest, hayrides, and a beer truck, all open to the public and commencing at 3:30 p.m. And for the cherry on top of the weekend, on Sunday, Oct. 15 the Schroon Lake Senior Center will perform a variety show entitled "S.O.S." (Seniors on Stage) at the Community Church at 2 p.m. at 1088 U.S. Route 9. "We are partnering with Schroon Lake Central School, one of the classes will be having a bake sale," Palisano noted. "We try to use events like this to allow other organizations to promote what they are doing. We always need to thank Word of Life for their participation, they are providing a number of things for the kids' carnival and volunteers and we are grateful to both Mountain Side Bible Church and their youth group and Word of Life and the Bible Institute for their contributions as well." The rain date for the event will be Saturday, Oct. 21. For more information, contact the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce at 518-532-7675.
