HK Boat Rentals holds ribbon-cutting

SARANAC LAKE | HK Boat Rentals is the newest acquisition of BNB Buddy, a small local hospitality firm. They celebrated their first season with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 11. BNB Buddy already owns accommodations like The Ashley, Sara Placid Inn and the Devlin. They brought HK Boat Rentals under their umbrella to expand the amenities these accommodations could offer. "(Guests) can rent boats at discounted prices for staying at one of our hotels, but we're also a local company, so we want to make it reasonable for locals as well," Shannon Reardon, manager of HK Boat Rentals, said. "So if they have family members that come in the area, they have a place to rent a boat and a place for them to stay." Another way they are hoping to include locals is by offering a local discount. "We really want locals to know that we're here," Reardon said. "We want them to take the boats out, the few people who don't own a boat up in this area." The company leases the north end of the docks at Saranac Waterfront Lodge. "It gives us an advantage, especially with the paddle sports with the kayaks and SUPs and things of that nature," Reardon said. "Other outfitters are not on the water, so people have to lug the boat to the water, then get in it, whereas ours are already moored in the water." The rental service has 20-foot pontoon boats, 16-foot fishing boats, stand-up paddle boards and tandem and single kayaks. On occasion, when they have a captain available, they offer rentals that come with a captain who takes guests out onto Lake Flower. Most rentals are for the day, but they also offer long-term rentals. "If somebody is camping on lower Saranac and wants to run a fishing boat for the week while they're out there, they can now do that," Reardon said. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can also be long-term rented, as long as the renter has a way to transport them.
