Tannery Pond's Outdoor Show embraces life in the ADKS

NORTH CREEK | Tannery Center has set aside a special community day for all lovers of the outdoors to gather and celebrate life in a place synonymous with wilderness, the Adirondacks. During this day-long event, entitled Outdoor Show, all kinds of people who love being outside — from hunters and trappers to fly fishers, hikers, and bird-watchers, or just run-of-the-mill Adirondack eccentrics — will get a chance to mingle and amicably socialize. Guest speakers representing diverse subjects will be on hand, like Dr. Nina Schoch, from the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, who will talk about the lives of loons, as well as Todd Waldron, who will offer Bird Hunting 101, an introduction to the sport of hunting birds. Live music, food trucks, craft beer, demonstrations, and a chili cook-off heighten the festive feeling. Vendors and booths include a taxidermist, fly-fishing gear, conservationists, rafting gear, hunting safety, and guides. Outdoorsy gear will be raffled off throughout the day, including a mountain bike donated by Rick's Bike Shop. Drop-off begins at noon, with tasting following at 2 and running till 4 p.m., when the winner will be announced. Cost for unlimited tasting is $10 a person. Three prizes will be offered — all sponsored by Braley & Noxon Hardware — and include a Weber Travel Grill for 1st Prize, a Yeti Cooler for 2nd Prize, and a Hamilton Beach Digital Crockpot as 3rd Prize. The Outdoor Show takes place Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. at the Tannery Pond Center, 228 Main St. in North Creek.
