Republican Primary puts Merrihew in for Essex County Clerk

ELIZABETHTOWN | Chelsea Merrihew won the Republican primary race for Essex County Clerk. Voting on Tuesday ended with her receiving 951 votes, besting the 494 for Stephanie DeZalia. Only voters registered in the candidates' party can participate in primary elections. "Thank you to everyone who voted!" Merrihew shared via social media. "I am truly honored." The sole Democratic primary was in Westport for an unexpired term on the Town Council. Jen Williams won the primary with 79 votes over 18 cast for Brian LaRose. In a Republican primary race for Town of Elizabethtown supervisor, Noel Merrihew III got 100 votes, besting Cathy Reusser-Bradley with 74 The faceoff for Town of Elizabethtown Public Works Superintendent was won by Jack Pulsifer with 122 votes. Contender Michael Drew got 48 votes. Republican primaries in North Hudson counted Chris Clark the winner in the supervisor's race with 53 votes over 37 for Cassandra D'Agostino. The three-way race for town councilor is close. Kevin Duntley received 49 votes, John King received 46 and Brian Caza received 45. The early results from the Essex County Board of Elections are unofficial because there are absentee ballots left to count. Eric Caza won the primary for the Superintendent of Highways in North Hudson with 51 votes to 34 cast for Franklin Shaw. Successful contenders in the Conservative primary for delegates to the 4th Judicial District Convention, 114th Assembly District were William McGahay III with 20 votes and Carol Birkholz with 18 votes, besting Joseph Salisbury with 1 vote. Conservative primary winners for Alternate Delegates to the district were Austin Martin with 18 votes and Steven Edwards with 17 votes, beating Paul Veitch with 3 votes. PLATTSBURGH WARD 2 PRIMARY There was only one primary race in Clinton County and that was the Democratic run for City Councilor in Ward 2. Unofficial results from the county Board of Elections show Jacob Avery won the race with 79 votes, accounting for 58.09 percent of the total. Damion Gilbert earned 57 votes, gaining 41.91 percent of total votes cast.
