Lake Placid takes sectional golf title

PLATTSBURGH | The Lake Placid varsity golf team reclaimed the Section VII boy's golf title for the third straight year, outscoring 12 other schools at the Barracks Golf Course May 25. Led by Brady Trembaly's one-over-par 73, the Blue Bombers low four scorers combined for 312 strokes, 30 less than second-place Moriah. "We have had a strong team this year and I knew from the start we would be pretty good," said Tremblay. "We have Carver (Bell), who is our young guy but he has played well over the year. Add him to myself and the two other seniors (Grady Draper and Chris Byrne). Our coach has set the standard to come out and win this title every year and we want to do that for him. It's nice for us as seniors to bring this one home." "Our top three — golf is our main thought every single day," said Byrne, who finished day one in third place with an 80. "We are practicing all the time and always talking about golf. The three of us have been playing together for the last five years and to see the constant improvement and to keep winning is really impressive to see." "It is three titles in a row for us and it may be Mr. G's (John Glinski) last year as a coach so it would be cool to win one final one for him," said Draper, who finished tied for sixth place with an 84. "I just went out there and had fun." Teammate Bell also tied for sixth with an 84. "It is really amazing because I was able to play a lot better than I did last year and it is really cool to have won this title twice as an eighth grader," he said. "It's amazing to be with this team and be on the bus rides and they help everyone out so much," said Bomber teammate Seb Cecunjanin. "This was a fun experience, especially since I have not been golfing very long as a beginning," added seventh grader Liam Gotham. Vikings qualify all The top 25 golfers from Thursday's first round will compete in the individual championship round Friday, May 26, with Tremblay, Byrne, Draper, and Bell qualifying. Moriah qualified all six of their golfers for day two, with Logan Gilbo tied for third (80), Vance Hikock tied for 11th (88), Silas Reeder 13th (89), Nick Winters tied 20th (94), Lance Snyder 22nd (95), and Dieter Olcott tied for 23rd (96) Peru qualified five golfers for day two in second place Nicholas Palmer (79), Liam Clark tied for 13th (89), Hayden Pelkey 16th (92), and Cooper Sweeney tied for 17th (93), and Patrick Clark tied for 23rd (96). The rest of the day two field included Porter Goodman (AuSable Valley, 82), Keegan Seamone (Beekmantown, 85), Braden Liberi (Boquet Valley, 86), Noah Jewtraw (Saranac Lake, 87), Dax Lashway (Saranac, 88), Ben Fredette (NCCS, 90), Cooper Burdo (Beekmantown, 93), Leo Hatch (Boquet Valley, 93), Porter Hackett (PHS, 94), Noah Wells (Ticonderoga, 95), and Ryan McGinnis-Theis (Saranac Lake, 96).
