Golf Nighthawks win in tiebreaker With Peru and Beekmantown winning three matches apiece, it came down to five strokes to give the Nighthawks a tiebreaker win over the Eagles May 16. Liam Clark carded the low round of the match for Peru with a 42-51 win over Owen Beebe, while Brady O'Connell scored a 48-58 win over Aidan Rocheleau and Hayden Pelkey a 57-60 win over Reese Seamone. The Eagles wins came from Keegan Seamone (44-50 over Nick Palmer), Cooper Burdo (44-49 over Connor Sweeney), and Seth Beebe (56-58 over Patrick Clark). Chiefs top Red Storm Nathan Hamel carded a 42 for the Saranac varsity golf team in a 5-1 win over Saranac Lake May 16. Hamel scored a seven-stroke win over Carson St. Louis, while Dax Lashway added a 47-48 win over Noah Jewtraw, and Noah Terry a 59-62 win over Cooper Partnode. Jason Mather and Rhys Fraser each carded a 51 in wins. Ryan McGinnis-Theis scored the lone point for the Red Storm with a 49-51 win over Cole Dingman. Tennis Cougars sweep Patriots It was a clean sweep for the Northeastern Clinton varsity boys tennis team May 16, scoring a 5-0 win over hosts AuSable Valley. Owen Roberts defeated Alic Rock 6-3, 6-1 to get things started in singles followed by Marcus Bedard defeating Liam MacDougal 6-0, 6-0; and Kaze Carpenter by forfeit. In the one contested doubles match, Ben Bresnahan and Alex Bulriss defeated Tristan Laundree and Tucker MacDougal 1-6,6-4,6-0. Luke Dutton and Thor Frostick won via forfeit. Softball Ross reaches 200 K's in CP win Kaitlin Ross recorded her 200th career strikeout as the freshman Crown Point pitcher sent three Lake Placid batters to the bench in a 19-4 win May 16. Ross also had two singles for the Panthers, while Maddison Munson had a home run and double. Ellah Slattery added three hits. Reid Pedu took the loss in the circle. Hornets handle Nighthawks A three-run third and four-run sixth gave Plattsburgh High the cushion it would need in a 7-2 win over Peru May 16. "It was a good game in some bad conditions," said Hornet coach Cynthia McMahon. "Peru played great defense and didn't commit any errors. Calli pitched another really good game allowing just two hits, striking out 10 while walking three. We were leading 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Bella Miller hit a double into right center with the bases loaded. That scored all three and gave us a little breathing room." Kyler Lehman had a double for Peru, while Zoey Malcolm went the distance in the circle. Lacrosse Hornets win on senior night The PHS girls lacrosse team hosted their final home game of the season against the inaugural Malone team May 18 at the Plattsburgh State Field House. It may have been a cold and blustery evening but there was much to celebrate as the Hornets hosted Senior Night and came away with the 13-4 victory. The Hornets spread the scoring around in notching their third win of the season. Leading the charge was senior, Bella Girard, tallying four goals and Marina Kane with two. Emilee Geiger, Morgan Hall, Reese Gregoire, Jillian Kain, Katie Rondeau, Susie Kennedy and Ava Johnson each tallied one goal. Marina Kane provided three assist while Marin Juneau, Reese Gregoire and Jillian Kain tallied an assist a piece. Bailey Hewson made 15 saves in goal for the Hornets. It was an emotional night for the Hornets as the team is sending off all three of its captains. Seniors Bella Girard and Katie Rondeau will cap off stellar careers at season's end. Sophomore and leading scorer, Marina Kane, will be heading to prep school. "This win meant a lot as it was our last home game," Captain Bella Girard stated. " I'm sad that our season is coming to the end but we grew so much as a team throughout our season." "It was an exciting game and a fantastic senior night for our two senior captains," said coach Shannon Brown. "Bella Girard had her first four goal game and Katie Rondeau, a three year starter on defense, scored her first career goal. Truly a storybook ending for these two amazing young ladies. "Marina Kane, in her last home game for us before she heads off to prep school, led us once again with her outstanding midfield play," added Brown. "In what has been an amazing season for her, she scored twice and dished out three assists, Marina is the epitome of a leader and team player, and she will certainly be missed."
