Track wrap: Peru ends Red Storm win streak

SARANAC LAKE | The Peru varsity boys track and field team found their stride in the freezing temperatures at Saranac Lake April 18, scoring a 72-60 win over Saranac Lake, the first loss for the Red Storm squad in four years. "It was a great effort by Peru," said Red Storm coach Cy Ellsworth. "When the temperatures dipped to 30 degrees with spitting snow, Peru's athletes seemed to get stronger and performed well in the cold. Congratulations to the coaching staff and to the athletes from Peru." Sawyer Schlitt won the 100 with a time of 10.8 seconds, the 200 in 24.5, and the 400 in 55.5, while joining with Jack Hanson, McMillan and Crawford to win the 400 relay in 9:01.08). Landon Pandolph won the 800 in 2:17.3, with Matthews winning the 400 hurdles (1:05.5), Lancto the triple jump (36-10) and high jump (5-8), and the team of Matthews, Fuller, Madesco and Pandolph the 1,600 relay (4:06.1). Jake Kollmer won the 1,600 (5:03.9) and 3,200 (11:42/9) for the Red Storm, also teaming with Sam Bickford, Aiden Hesseltine, and Sam Madden to win the 3,200 relay in 9:01.8). Carter Hewitt was a double winner in the 110 hurdles (16.1) and long jump (16-10.5), while Mitchell Ellsworth completed the throwing double with wins in the shot put (45-2) and discus (133-2). The Red Storm did score a 118-10 win over Ticonderoga at the same meet. The Nighthawk girls also scored a 96-31 win over Saranac Lake, while the Red Storm scored a 92-33 win over Ticonderoga. The Peru team of Maddy Welc, Ophelia Breen, Gallow and Gallow won the 3,200 relay in 11:23.2, while Welc also scored wins in the 1,500 (5:35.9) and 3,000 (13:08.8); while Breen added a win in the 400 hurdles (1:17.5); and Davey scored a win in the triple jump (27-7). Other Peru winners included Gallow, Markowitz, Davey and Palmer in the 400 relay (56.9), Arnold in the 400 (68.5), Garrow in the 800 (2:43.9), Garrow in the 200 (29.8), Garrow, Arnold, Trumper, and Garrow in the 1,600 relay, Garrow in the long jump (14-7), and Palmer in the shot put (29-8) and discuss (85-7). Ticonderoga's Isabelle Burroughs was a double winner in the 100 hurdles (18.2) and high jump (4-4, tied with Bella Berry of Peru), while Awa Kujabi of Saranac Lake won the 100 in 13.8. Cougars top Eagles Led by Ava McAuliffe, the Northeastern Clinton varsity girls track and field team scored an 80-50 win over Beekmantown April 18. "Ava McAuliffe led the cougars on a chilly afternoon at Beekmantown," said Eagles coach Kathy Champagne. "She took home wins in the 100 (12.8), 400 (1:03.1), 200 (27.9), and was part of the winning 1,600 relay team (4:42.6 with Alex Cone, Callie Racine, Shiloh Carroll). Carroll was a triple winner in the 400 hurdles (1:19.2), 4oo relay (58.0 with Caitlin Harvey, Racine, and Quinn Jolicoeur), and 1,600 relay. Teammate Lexi Clark swept the long (13-4) and triple (30-4) jumps. "Kylie Bishop of Beekmantown was a double winner taking firsts in the shot put (29-9.5) and discus (65-70," Champagne added. The NCCS team of Jolicoeur, Racine, Eaven Deso and Cone won the 3,200 relay in 11:33.1, while Holly Visconti won the 100 hurdles (19.8). For Beekmantown, Lexie Rostak won the 1,500 in 6:02.1, with Olivia Drowne winning the 3,200 in 12:48.8, and Reilly Quinn the high jump with a mark of 4-10. Knights nip Patriots The Seton Catholic boys track and field team narrowly scored a 62-61 win over AuSable Valley April 18. Ashton Guay, Sam DeJordy, Max Grafstein and Aiden Pearl worked together to win the 3,200 relay in 14:11.3, while Guay, Grafstein and Pearl teamed with Cooper Metcalf to win the 1,600 relay (4:16.5). Individually, Guay added victories in the 100 (12.0) and 200 (25.3), while Grafstein won the 1,600 (5:27.6) and 400 (57.2), and Pearl the 800 (2:06.7). Gavin Bobbie added a win in the shot put (48-9.5), with Chase winning the 3,200 (12:07.6). For the Patriots, Celton Dupuis teamed with Avonte Yeates, Rowin Rabideau and Haidyn Smith to win the 400 relay (50.1), while scoring an individual win in the 400 (69.8). Dom LaPier won the 110 hurdles (20.7), with Yeates winning the long jump (16-4.5), Connor Brandt the triple jump (33-1.5), and Caspian Leferve the discus (104-7.5).
