Swan, Schwoebel lead all state hoops selections

PLATTSBURGH | Moriah's Rowan Swan and Boquet Valley's Abbey Schwoebel were two of the top names in Section VII basketball throughout their high school careers. In their final act, the two seniors headline a strong contingent of Section VII boys' and girls' hoopers who were named to the New York State Sportswriter's Association's all state teams. Girls In Class D, Schwoebel was named to the second team, up from her third team position one year ago. She was again joined by teammate Ella Lobdell who also moved up from fifth team in 2022 to fourth team this season. Seton Catholic's Madyson Whalen also received a second-year mention, returning to the honorable mention list. Newcomers from Class D included Schroon Lake's Dakotah Cutting, who was named to the fifth team, while Bolton's Jadynn Egloff was named to the ninth team. In Class C, Northeastern Clinton's Desiree DuBois was named to the sixth team, with teammate Bailee LaFountain named to the 10th team. Northern Adirondack also had a pair of representatives, with Abby Peryea being named to the seventh team and Isabella Gilmore — at 10th team selection a year ago — named to the 12th team. Moriah's Hannah Gaddor was named to the honorable mention list in Class C. CVAC MVP Sydney Myers remained a member of the Class B third team for the second straight year, with teammate Brenna Ducatte climbing from the 12th team in 2022 to the seventh team in 2023. Eighth-grader Reese Duprey made the 14th team in her first varsity season, while AuSable Valley senior Lilley Keyser was named to the 15th team. For Myers, Ducatte, Whalen, DuBois and Schwoebel, the honors marked the second straight season named as an all state player, as each was honored as such for their exploits on the soccer pitch. Boys Moriah's Swan vaulted from a 2022 honorable mention member to being named to the second team in Class C this season, finishing one team shy of his brother, Braden, who was a first team all state selection in 2020. Teammate Brady Olcott was named as an honorable mention member. Northeastern Clinton was also represented by a pair as Evan Manor was named to the Class C ninth team and Jordan Brown an honorable mention. Northern Adirondack's Matt Boulrice was named to the 10th team. Plattsburgh High's Michael Phillips was named to his second basketball all state team, placed on the 15th team in 2023 after being an honorable mention member in 2022. Beekmantown's Josh Burgin was the top Class B player from Section VII, being named to the 12th team. A pair of Saranac Lake players were named all state, with half-court hero Caleb Akey named to the 18th team and Markus Navarra as an honorable mention. In Class D, Crown Point sophomore Trevor Harris was named to the fourth team after being an honorable mention selection the year prior. All other Class D members were new to the all state list, including Schroon Lake's Isaiah Pelkey (fifth team) and Corbin Baker (HM). Other honorable mention selections included Logan Bush of Newcomb, Jaxon Egloff of Bolton (who joined his sister Jadynn as an all state selection), Jackson Hooper of Boquet Valley, and Aiden Pearl of Seton Catholic.
