Hilary Stec appointed to represent Qby. on Warren Co. Board of Supervisors

QUEENSBURY | Hilary Stec of Queensbury, who has deep experience in human resources management, has been appointed by the Queensbury Town Board to serve as a town supervisor-at-large on the Warren County Board of Supervisors. Stec is taking on the seat that became open recently due to Rachel Seeber's retirement. Stec is to serve out Seeber's unexpired term, which extends through Dec. 31. All four Queensbury supervisor-at-large positions will be up for election in November. Stec told the town board that she intends to run for the subsequent two-year term. Democrats Dave Strainer, Mike Parwana and Robin Larkin as well as Conservatives Jim Dobkowski and Travis Whitehead have sought to fill out Seeber's term. Donald Stack, a Republican, submitted a letter of interest to the board, but subsequently withdrew his candidacy. Stec is a Human Resources Consultant for Integra HR of the Capital District, a position she's held since August. Beforehand, she was Vice President of Human Resources and Operations for Jaeger & Flynn Associates, which provides employee benefits, insurance and administrative services for area enterprises nationally. From November 2016 through April 2020, she was Director of Human Resources for Mills Entertainment of Saratoga Springs. Beforehand, she served for nearly 10 years as Human Resources Manager for Angio Dynamics, a medical devices corporation that grew from its base in Queensbury to have an international presence and a U.S. workforce of 1,400. Her prior position was Manager of Human Resources for Prospect Child and Family Center from Dec. 2002 to Dec. 2005. In 2001, Stec earned a Master's Degree in Business from the College of Saint Rose, eight years after earning accreditation as a paralegal. She was awarded a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1990. Stec's volunteer work includes serving as a committee leader for Boy Scout Troop 6016, and as a treasurer for another local scouting group. Hilary Stec's appointment was effective Jan. 27, soon after the town board interviewed Stec and other candidates for the post. In that interview, Stec said that she was seeking the post because of her longstanding interest in history and government, and that she has the free time to serve her town by representing Queensbury in county governance. She told the board members that she had been attending the county Board of Supervisors' recent meetings, and was familiar with the issues that county leaders were currently facing. She also noted that through her work, she had contacts throughout the Capital District, which would be beneficial to the board in accomplishing public policy initiatives. Stec's husband is state Sen. Dan Stec, who represents the 45th Senate District, which encompasses all of Warren, Essex, Clinton, and Franklin counties, and portions of St. Lawrence and Washington counties. She also said that her expertise and background in human resources would be useful in assisting the board in navigating personnel issues, adding that she had considerable experience in business administration, as well as working with people at all levels of various organizations. Stec said she would work well with other supervisors, was team-oriented, and would conduct herself in a "professional, appropriate and non-confrontational way," apparently referring to the discord recently occurring among county supervisors. "I think I'm very solution-oriented, a strong communicator, and an active listener — and I love this region," she said.
