8th Annual Tour de Force honors Border Agent LaBombard

PLATTSBURGH | The 8th Annual Tour de Force run in May will be dedicated to Border Patrol Agent Hunter C. LaBombard, who died tragically in an off-duty accident in January. There are bike races added this year. The annual fundraiser is coordinated through Tour de Force, a nationwide race series established after Sept. 11, 2001. The North Country event held at Point Au Roche State Park is managed by runner Thomas Brown, who has, to date, raised over $50,000 total in local and national Tour de Force races for charity. "I have been doing the run here for the last seven years," he said via email. "And every year I honor someone different. Recently, Border Patrol Agent Hunter C. LaBombard, from the Burke patrol station, died in a tragic accident, and I got permission from his family to honor a local hero who died way too early." Brown said he began to compete with Tour de Force after the Boston Marathon bombings occurred in 2014. "I got involved with Tourdeforceny.com and started raising money through fundraising events locally as well as the Tour de Force Charity Run. On my first running event, I honored MIT (Massachusetts institute of Technology) police officer Sean Collier who was killed during the Boston bombings." Brown is one among the top 13 fundraisers for Tour de Force nationally, with races held in September. The local event will begin at staggered start times on Sunday May 7 at Point Au Roche State Park in Plattsburgh, with race options for all levels of runners, adaptive racers, walkers and bicyclists. Categories for racers to join are: Half Marathon; 10K walk or run, 5K walk or run, 1 mile walk, 25 mile bike, and 50 mile bike. Registration fees are for charitable contribution and sign-up opens on March 8. Each race begins at Point au Roche in staggered starts. Brown said the bike course does not interfere with the running courses.
