Tuesday recap: Eagles win on Hannah's Hope Night: hoops, bowling and wrestling action

PLATTSBURGH | Sam Bingel recorded a hat trick with three goals along with two assists for the Beekmantown varsity boys hockey team as they scored a 10-0 win over Plattsburgh High in the ninth annual Hannah's Hope game Feb. 7. "This was a solid team win and a valuable two league points on our ninth annual Hannah's Hope night that brings awareness to and raises funds for Hannah and her foundation," said Eagles coach Justin Frechette. "I would like to send a special thank you to Reagan Tetreault and all of the wonderful volunteers and people who donated once again to our event and made this night possible. Hannah has been a great example and inspiration to our players over the last nine years. The way in which she tackles her medical challenges with such grit, determination, and positivity is simply inspiring and motivational to us all." Zach LaPier, Louis Sweenor and Cooper Burdo each added two goals for the Eagles, as Keegan Seamone scored one. Quinn Brandell led Beekmantown with three assists, while LaPier, Braden Nephew, and Keegin Rodier each had two. One assist was credited to each Sweenor, Burdo, Luke Moser, Reagan Dudyak, Novak Jarus, Pryce Parker, and Caden Columbus. Austin Doser made 18 saves to earn the shutout victory in net, while Owen Chapple made 46 saves for the Hornets. Girls basketball Chiefs down Nighthawks Sydney Myers scored 18 points and Brenna Ducatte added 13 as the Saranac varsity girls basketball team scored a 53-28 win over Peru Feb. 7. "Our girls played extremely tough tonight," said Nighthawks coach Brittany Marshall. "Saranac is a very talented and disciplined team. We had difficulties breaking their press which lead to them getting a lead quick. I am very proud of how this team never gives and fights hard until the end. Tonight was extra special as we honored our two seniors; Ashley Brousseau and Emma St. Denis. Another great effort from every member of our team." Molly Denis added seven points to the Chiefs' offense, as Layla Pellerin scored six, Kylie Brault three, Lia Parker three, Raegan Mulverhill two, and Kaelyn Fay two. Reese Duprey and Vanessa Lawyer each scored nine points for the Nighthawks as Emma St. Dennis added four, Ashley Brousseau four, and Natalia Gushlaw-Mirville two. Chazy tops Warriors Carly LaPierre scored 16 points and Emma Howell added 15 as the Chazy varsity girls basketball team scored a 40-30 win over Willsboro Feb. 7. Kassidy Turek added five points for the Eagles, as Kaelyn Dunbar scored three and Kalli Schwartz one. Isabella Harrison led the Warriors with 10 points, while Maddisen Benway scored eight, Mallory Arnold seven, Kyla Crowningshield four, and McKinley Belzile one. Patriots outlast Vikings Three Patriots were in double-digits as AuSable Valley scored a 54-31 win over Moriah Feb. 7. Lilley Keyser led the way with 16 points for the Patriots, while Brooklyn Douglass scored 12, Reese Shambo 10, Kaydence Hoehn seven, Sarah Richards five, and Haley Hickey four. Hannah Gaddor led the Vikings with 13 points as Ally Bosarge added six, Anisha Belden four, Maddy Eichen two, Dava Marcil two, and Emma Harrington two. Knights pull away from Bombers A strong second half for the Seton Catholic varsity girls basketball team gave the Knights a 39-18 win over Lake Placid Feb. 6. Madyson Whalen, Grace Trombley and Abby Pearl each scored eight points to lead a balanced Knight offense, with Emma Langlois adding six, Gabriella Conti five, Charlotte Hughes three, and Chloe Lawliss one. Nadia Phillip led the Blue Bombers with eight points as Julia Crawford added six, Julianna Marvin two, and Katie Coursen two. Bobcats fall late Northern Adirondack held a lead through much of their Feb. 5 game with Section X foe Chateaugay, but it was the Bulldogs who made a late push for a 33-30 victory. Abby Peryea led the Bobcats with 10 points while Isabella Gilmore scored seven, MacKenna LaBarge six, Sophia Charland three, Hallie Gilmore two, and Ava Moore two. "Isabella Gilmore had 16 rebounds, while Molly Peryea and Hallie Gilmore worked hard on defense for NAC," said Bobcats coach Dennis LaBarge. Boys basketball Wildcats clinch MVAC crown Schroon Lake jumped out to a 35-10 halftime lead, ending the game with a 60-25 edge over Willsboro Feb. 7. "We secured the MVAC Division I title with the league win tonight," said Wildcats coach Lee Silvernail. "We were able to do a good job tonight of finding the open man and getting some good looks against a scrappy Willsboro team." Nate Melville led the Wildcats with 15 points, while Corbin Baker added 14, Isaiah Pelkey 12, Afnan Wasif seven, Carter Hart six, and Antonio Brown six. Harvey Merrill led the Warriors with 14 points, followed by Logan Jaquish with five, Avery Lee three, Austin Hathaway two, and Connor Crowningshield one. Beavers top Huskies Vann Morrelli led the Keene varsity boys basketball team with 18 points as the Beavers scored a 63-48 win over Newcomb Feb. 7. Asa Sprague added 13 Beaver points while Brayden Harmer scored 12, Jonny Caito nine, Soren Jacobsen seven, and Peter Robjent four. Logan Bush led the way for the Huskies with 19 points, with Marcus Armstrong adding 14, Camden Lamphear nine and Eric Bush six. Blue Bombers outlast Orange Ceb Cecunjanin scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lake Placid to a 45-38 win over Indian Lake/Long Lake Feb. 7. Cecunjanin connected on four three-pointers as part of his strong offensive night, as Foster Wood scored eight points Talon Jordan seven, Alex Wright five, Chris Byrne three, and Owen Hayes two. Griffin Farr led the Orange with 17 points in the game, with Austin Bruso scoring nine, Alex Frasier eight, and Deuce Hosley four. Panthers out-claw Irish Jags Three Crown Point players went for 20 or above in the Panthers' 85-35 win over Johnsburg-Minerva Feb. 7. Trevor Harris led all scorers with 27 points, while Cole Potter and Reese Pertak each scored 20. Bruce Kwandrans added six Panther points, with Matt Beeman also scoring six, Ryan Russell four, and Alex Stone two. "We could not match Crown Point's athleticism and outside shooting ability, as three Panthers players each finished with 20 or more points," said Irish Jaguars coach Pete Olesheski. "Rodney Wolfe led the Irish Jags with 21 points and nine rebounds in the loss." James Fish added eight points for the Irish Jags, while Nate Vanerwarker scored four and Clark Griffen two. Wrestling Chiefs nearly sweep Nighthawks The Saranac varsity wrestling team scored wins in 10 of their 12 matches Feb. 7 in a 60-12 win over Peru. Kannon Kriplin started the Chief run with a win by fall 1:20 into his match, while Landen Smith scored a first-period fall at 189, Colby Roeseler a 5-0 decision against Peru's Lawrence Serano, Ryan Devins a first-period fall, Ashton Seymour a second-period fall, Alex Clancy a first-period fall, and Landen Gadway an 8-6 decision over Nighthawk Landen Goddeau. Bryce Wiggins (fall at 215) and Caleb Starke (fall at 110) scored the two wins for Peru. Bowling Eagles sweep Bobcats Logan Hart recorded the lone 200-plus game for the Beekmantown varsity boys bowling team in a 4-0 Eagle sweep over Northern Adirondack Feb. 6. Hart had a 201 high game in a 201-199-195-595, while Aiden Tromblee added a 144-180-193-517 triple, Alex Deso 196-159-155-510, Wyatt Dragoon 153-181-151-485, and Josh Caulkins 172-168-119-459. Ashton Nichols led the Bobcats with a series of 185-193-168-546, followed by Chase Nichols at 206-178-145-529, Jarrod Shusda 160-165-200-525, Devin Guillaume 168-162-184-514, and Jaiden Menard 130-187-167-484. In the girls match, Alexa Sampica's 213 high game for the day gave her a two-pin advantage for high series with a 140-156-213-509 as Beekmantown scored a 4-0 win. Abby Fessette added a 154-169-184-507 triple in the win, followed by Allyson Cragle at 149-170-179-498, Tori Bump 172-168-119-459, and Kelsey Cook 188-124-136-448. Kate LaPoint led the Bobcats with a series of 156-141-142-439, with Destiny Boyle adding 121-87-123-331, Lia Bennett 118-100-84-302, and Natalee Desotell 63-104-82-251.
