Johnsburg Supervisor Andrea Hogan to resign in mid-February

NORTH CREEK | Johnsburg Town Supervisor Andrea Hogan, who has been in office for five years, announced Jan. 17 that she will be resigning in mid-February rather than at the end of this year, as she has previously planned. Hogan made the surprise announcement during the Johnsburg Town Board's Jan. 17 meeting. "It was an honor and a privilege to serve the town, and I am proud of what we were able to accomplish during my tenure," she said. "The forward momentum we have seen is not due to any one individual, but a team approach — and I look forward to seeing the board and town continue to progress with conscientious growth." Hogan said she intends to continue living in her Johnsburg home as well as in her vacation home in Maine. In October, she accepted the position of Executive Director of the Vinalhaven Land Trust in Vinalhaven, Maine, an island community in the Atlantic Ocean off the Maine coast — but she worked for this not-for-profit organization remotely from her Johnsburg home. "Circumstances have changed, and I have decided to take my life in a different direction," she said after the meeting. "It has been challenging to focus on everyday issues with so much discord," she added, citing instances encountered in both conducting town business, and the work as a Warren County Supervisor. "I hope that going forward, people can try to be more positive and collaborative than they have been at both the town and county levels." Hogan was first elected Johnsburg Town Supervisor in November 2017 and took office in January 2018. Having been elected to the post every two years since, she is now serving in her third term. Prior to taking on the post as Johnsburg Supervisor, she served 10 years as the Director of the Adirondack Community Outreach Center. Hogan is a commissioner of the Adirondack Park Agency, a post to which she was appointed by the Governor in 2020, and her term expires in 2023. She said this week she plans to resign from the position. The Johnsburg town board is accepting letters of interest in the supervisor's position until Feb. 2. According to local sources, newly appointed board member Pete Hoskins has expressed interest in taking on the role of town supervisor. Also, local resident Tom Volcheck has submitted a letter of interest.
