Warren Co. Social Services worker hailed

LAKE GEORGE | A Warren County Social Services employee who goes to great lengths to help her clients was granted an award Jan. 20 by the Warren County Board of Supervisors. Carolyn Darcy of Lake George, a case manager for Warren County Department of Social Services, was named county "Employee of the Month" by the board of supervisors at their monthly meeting. County Social Services Commissioner Chris Hanchett said that Darcy, who counsels residents at Countryside Adult Home in Warrensburg, was compassionate, "very caring," dedicated to her work, and "a real pleasure to work with." Darcy started working for the county in 2017 as a welfare examiner, and she was promoted in 2021 to her present position. "Carolyn has been a real gem," he said. "She is driven not just to meet the needs of our residents, but to improve their quality of life." Hanchett read a memo authored by Countryside Director Amy McByrne describing Darcy's attributes. "Her enthusiasm and positive attitude are contagious not only with residents but also with her co-workers," McByrne said of Darcy. McByrne noted that recently, Darcy had advocated for a resident of Countryside "as if she were her own mother." The woman had just been told she was terminally ill, and Darcy cheered her up and took her on a jaunt for an ice cream treat, McByrne stated. "On the day of her death, (Carolyn) was on her way to a wedding — No one expected for her to drop everything and rush to the hospital, but that's exactly what she did — she made sure the woman knew she was loved, and how brave she was," McByrne said in the letter Hanchett read. McByrne said Darcy's actions were admirable. "It is Carolyn's heart that makes her such a wonderful case manager and such a valuable employee," she said. Hanchett concluded his award presentation describing how Darcy's attitude was uplifting to others. "She raises spirits among Countryside residents and improves morale among the staff as well as throughout our department," he said. When presented with a plaque, Darcy offered her thoughts about working for Warren County. My time with the county...has been amazing," she said. "The dedication of the employees at Countryside is absolutely amazing: they 'rock it out' every single day — some of them, for 30-plus years."
