CVAC announces football all stars

PLATTSBURGH | Peru quarterback Zach O'Connell was named the Most Valuable Player in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference for the 2022 varsity football season. O'Connell helped lead the Nighthawks to the Section VII/Class B championship game and a regional finals appearance for the second straight season and was joined in CVAC top honors by teammate Zachary Hunter, who was named defensive player of the year; and his father, Ryon O'Connell, who was named coach of the year along with Saranac's Dylan Everleth. A pair of Moriah Vikings were also selected at the top of the honors, as Riley Demarais was named offensive player of the year and Ethan Madill lineman of the year. First team The Class B champion Nighthawks were represented on the first team by Jack Hanson, who was selected as a running back and outside linebacker; Landen Duprey, who also received double-recognition as a tight end and defensive lineman; and Rocky Hebert as a wide receiver and defensive lineman. Hunter was named a first team offensive lineman, while Eddie Supley was named to the first team as an offensive lineman and second team on the defensive line. Saranac's Alex Clancy was selected as a first teamer as an all-purpose offensive back, cornernack and kick returner, while Nathan Hamel received first team honors at kicker (second team running back). Moriah was represented by first team fullback/second team linebacker Boden Valentine, quarterback/safety Rowan Swan, offensive lineman Jack Ives, defensive lineman Alec Young, cornerback Evan Fleury, and safety Demarais. The rest of the first team included Saranac Lake running back/outside linebacker Carter Hewitt, Plattsburgh High fullback/defensive lineman Trenton Griffiths, Saranac Lake receiver Markus Navarra, Saranac Lake linemen Austin Barry and Mitchell Ellsworth, Red Storm inside linebackers Kaden Darrah and Logan Hathaway, and PHS punter Michael Phillips (second team cornerback). Second team Members of the second team include Beekmantown's Nathan Parliament (QB), AuSable Valley's Dylan Bombard (RB), Beekmantown's Louis Sweenor (FB), Peru's Jack Hayes (FB/OLB), Peru's Riley Hebert (WR), AuSable Valley's Porter Goodman (WR), Saranac's Bryce DeAngelo (TE), Saranac's Isaiah Lopez (OL), Saranac's Dylan Cogswell (OL/DL), Beekmantown's Jesse Giddings (OL), Moriah's Owen Nephew (OL), Beekmantown's Connor Bushey (OL), Saranac's Matt Rugar (DL), AuSable Valley's Zach McLean (DL), Saranac's Kaiden Breyette (ILB), Ticonderoga's Kam Vigliotti (ILB), Beekmantown's Joshua Sand (CB), Peru's Zack Engstron (CB), Saranac Lake's Evan Willett (safety), Saranac's Landen Smith (safety/punter), Saranac Lake's Landon Faubert (kicker), and Plattsburgh High's Dominic DeAngelo (kick returner).
