Peru tandem leads volleyball all stars

PLATTSBURGH | The setter and Libero for the Peru varsity girls volleyball team took home the top honors for the 2022 varsity season, as Rachel Madore was named the CVAC Most Valuable Player and Alyssa Bartholomew Defensive Player of the Year. The duo helped lead the Nighthawks to a 17-1 season record as Madore led the team and Section VII with 94 aces and team-leading 380 assists from the setter position, while Bartholomew led the team with 158 receptions and 271 digs, which led Section VII. Northern Adirondack's Elizabeth Brown was named the CVAC Coach of the Year, with Saranac being awarded the Ray Holmes Sportsmanship Award. Members of the CVAC first team include Natalie Battinelli (Plattsburgh High), Julia Crawford (Lake Placid), Katie Finn (Peru), Mackenzie Lawrence (NAC), Anica Null (Saranac Lake), Ella Repas (Beekmantown), Maddy Robinson (Peru), and Sadie Walker (PHS). The second team included Charlize Daniels (Beekmantown), Isabel Detulleo (PHS), Lilly Duquette (PHS), Kate LaPoint (NAC), Azra Michael (Saranac Lake), Nadia Phillip (Lake Placid), Hailey Schiraldi (Saranac), and Raven Sessoms (AVCS). Honorable mention went to Piper Dubuque (AVCS), Kayla Castine (Beekmantown), Norah Galvin (Lake Placid), Chloe Defayette (NAC), Emma Goodrow (NCCS), Margie Raftree (Saranac), and Malea White (Saranac Lake). All state Peru's Madore also received a NYS Volleyball Coaches All State fifth team Class B recognition for her season, while Null was named to the Class C fifth team and Crawford the same team in Class D.
