Former National Security official named Warren Co. CEO

QUEENSBURY | The Warren County Board of Supervisors has selected John Taflan, a former executive with the National Security Agency, to serve as Warren County Administrator. Taflan replaces acting Administrator Craig Leggett, who has served as the local government's temporary CEO since former Warren Administrator Ryan Moore resigned as of Aug. 1. Taflan's appointment as Warren County Administrator was affirmed Nov. 18 by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors. Taflan recently completed a distinguished career at the National Security Agency in Washington D.C., where he served as the Director of Human Resources and as an Intelligence Officer overseas, according to Warren County publicist Don Lehman. Plans call for Taflan to start working for the county in December, Lehman said. Taflan is a resident of Queensbury — his family has owned a property in the hamlet of Cleverdale on Lake George since 1937. In 2019, the Taflans replaced the original seasonal camp, built by Mrs. Taflan's grandfather, with a year-round home where they now reside. "Our family loves Lake George and the Adirondacks, and Warren County has essentially been our home away from home for the past 25 years," Taflan said in a press release. Warren County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Geraghty said he and other county officials were pleased to select a person with such expertise and prominent achievements. "The Warren County Board of Supervisors is gratified to find a candidate with John Taflan's experience and accomplishments to work as Warren County Administrator," he said. "We are confident his management skills and connections to Warren County will make him a great fit for the position of county administrator, helping to lead our county government through whatever challenges arise going forward." Teflan's resume includes serving as the NSA's Director of Public Works, where he oversaw the design and construction of the agency's new campus at Fort Meade, Maryland and other campuses across the U.S. He completed his career serving on the NSA Board of Directors, making collaborative decisions concerning the agency's human resources, personnel education and training, facilities, logistics, construction, occupational health, workplace safety, and environmental services as well as oversight of the agency's police force. Taflan is a retired U.S. Army officer who received his commission from West Point. His wife, Heidi, is a retired naval officer. After they retired from military service, Taflan took a job at Ohio State University in human resources. He moved to NSA shortly after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Taflan stated he was humbled to have been selected as Warren County Administrator. "This is a well-run county and I look forward to working with the Board of Supervisors and the county departments to continue to provide exceptional service to the residents of Warren County," he said.
