Kent-Delord House to hold holiday event

PLATTSBURGH | The Kent-Delord House Museum is adorned with decorations for a special holiday open house Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Samantha Williams, Kent-Delord House Museum director, said, "We are very excited to once again feature a holiday open house. Many people look forward to seeing this historic house decorated for the holidays and this year we have combined our open house with the theme of a Dickens Christmas and an Artists and Crafts Event." "A Christmas Carol," the popular holiday story, was published in 1843 by Charles Dickens. This novel captured the imagination of the Victorians and continues to catch the interest of subsequent generations. Williams enthusiastically explains, "Did you know Dickens actually wrote five Christmas-themed novels? We have these stories beautifully displayed at the museum for this open house along with other popular Victorian holiday customs. Our featured tree magically captures a local Christmas tree displayed in Plattsburgh over a hundred years ago as retold by Betsey Delord in a letter to her granddaughter, Fannie." Visitors can enjoy the holiday decorations and shop at the same time, as each room will showcase a different artisan. Williams further describes the event, "We are very lucky to feature talented, local artisans who will have many unique items on sale, including jewelry, blacksmith goods, paintings, wood-carved pieces, handmade soaps, honey, and more. This event provides our visitors the opportunity to enjoy the decorations, do a little holiday shopping, and support the museum and local artists at the same time". This event is free to the public.
